History

Bicycle Alley was founded in 1984 just one step away from its present location. In the beginning, the employee roster contained three employees one of which was a volunteer.

At the Time, mountain bikes were in their infancy and suspension was unheard of on a bicycle. The Specialized “Stumpjumper” is credited with being the first production mountain bike. This same model, which Bicycle Alley has sold from the beginning, currently sits in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

Greg Lemond was just coming into his own on the professional road-racing scene. In two years time, the United States would have its very first Tour de France victory. The Bicycling industry and cycling in general was about to change dramatically.

Today, Bicycle Alley employs over twenty individuals with many more brought on during the summer, the height of the cycling season. Our Service staff has more than doubled as our actual square footage has exploded, taking up most of the building that use to be home to three separate businesses.

Lance Armstrong has ridden a stock Trek OCLV road bicycle, one of our largest brands, to an awesome four victories in the Tour de France. By the time he retires, the history books will be able to record his unbelievable feat…more Tour victories than ANYONE, EVER!

Bicycle Alley also can claim a World Champion within their ranks! Lydia Barter is the current World Champion in her age category for mountain bike racing…WORLD CHAMPION! Way to go, Lydia!

With all the technological advances that cycling has enjoyed during the past two decades, Bicycle Alley has been there. Whatever wonderful advances the future brings for cycling, Bicycle Alley will be there.

Come see why….
